Rumors III: Oilers, Panthers, Wings, Canes, Flyers, Flames and Bruins
  • Elliotte Friedman of SportsNet: From Friedman’s 30 thoughts:It was rumored that the Panthers would prefer to move to the American Airlines Arena (where the Miami Heat play) but that idea was shot down.

The Oilers are saying that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was injured by the hit before his fight with Canucks Dan Hamhuis and not from the fight.

Jeff Petry is a pending UFA, and the Oilers should move him as soon as they can and end the distraction. The Red Wings and Ducks could be options as they are looking for a right-handed defenseman.

Jeff Petry has ‘Detroit’ written all over him. Petry is from Michigan and is a right-handed defenseman.

The Wings have also been linked to Tylers Myers and during one conversation last summer asked for Anthony Mantha and probably another prospect. Myers is only 24-years old and his salary decreases over the next five years. Teams will have to pay up if they want him.

The Wings would like to move Jakob Kindl.

The Wings would be interested in Brian Campbell if the Panthers decide to move him. He’s not a right-handed defenseman like they are looking for, but he is an excellent puck-moving Dman. Campbell does have some no-trade protection.

There are no guarantees that the Hurricanes trade Eric Staal, he controls the situation.

Another Hurricane that teams could be looking at is pending UFA defenseman Andrej Sekera. The Hurricanes may look to keep him.

Sources saying the Flyers tried to trade Chris Pronger’s rights during the summer, and there were some reasonably serious discussions.

Flyers GM Ron Hextall is going to be patient. When he was trying to trade for the Panthers No. 1 pick at the draft, he wanted some “lottery protection” for the 2015 first round pick involved.

Flames GM Brad Treliving is denying that defenseman Dennis Wideman is available.

The Jets tried to sign Lee Stempniak in the offseason, but he wanted to stay in the east.
