NHL Rumors III: Trade Candidates, Wings, Green, Brodeur, Hayes and Pokka

  • Tim Kavanagh of ESPN: Top centers that are rumored to be on the trade block: 1. Vincent Lecavalier 2. Ryan Johansen – there is the unlikely scenario that due to the stalled contract talks that teams may call to see what it would take to get him. 3. Nazem Kadri.
  • Tim Kavanagh of ESPN: Top-six winger trade candidates for this offseason: 1. Evander Kane 2. Patrick Sharp 3. Cody Hodgson.
  • Art Regner of Fox Sports Detroit: A team source is saying that the Red Wings have made Mike Green their top trade target and have reached out to the Capitals regarding  Green and his availability. The Capitals have indicated in the past that he’s staying, but it might make sense for them to move him given their salary cap situation. Green is owed $6.2 million this year with a $6 million salary cap hit. The source added that the longer the Capitals hold on to Green, the more likely other teams could inquire about him. Green has a modified no-trade clause. The Red Wings would like to move quickly on a deal and are hopeful they can get something done.
  • Matt Larkin of The Hockey News: Five landing spots that make sense for Martin Brodeur: 1. Winnipeg Jets – if the Jets trade for James Reimer, swap in Toronto here  2. Columbus Blue Jackets 3. Boston Bruins 4. Arizona Coyotes 5. New Jersey Devils.
  • Scott Powers of ESPN Chicago: Blackhawks prospect Kevin Hayes won’t be attending their prospect camp as he’s still without a contract. Hayes has been to four of their previous camps. The Blackhawks have until August 15th to sign him to an entry-level deal or he will become an unrestricted free agent.
  • Arthur Staple: Understanding that if Ville Pokka doesn’t make the Islanders out of training camp, he’ll return to Karpat of the Finnish league. Staple’s thinks it’s unlikely that he makes the team.

How does Boston “make sense” as a landing site for Brodeur? Rask just won the Vezna and does not need a baby sitter/tutor/over-the-hill veteran. We just signed Svedberg who is a much better goalie and will be backing up Rask, obviously. We are up against the cap, so is Brodeur going to play for free? This by far the dumbest rumor I have heard to date. We dont need or want Brodeur. It would be the most ridiculous signing ever.

CJ are you high? OK so everything you said is right, I agree with that. But Svedberg a better goalie? Haha your &ucked. One game in the NHL with 1.97 OK, how does that compair? Look at his minor stats and think about what you said.

2.58 & .906 vs 2.24 & .912 (playoffs 2.02 & .919) and that includes the last 3 years of bad play, which are still better then svedberg

@Shawn. You wanna make that bet that Brodeur has a better year than Svedburg? Boston has no need or money for New Jerseys back up. I guarantee Brodeurs numbers drop even further this year. You think he is going to sign for the league minimum? Cause thats what his numbers will warrant. I think he will sign for a few million and be one of the worst dollar per performance goalies in the NHL this year. He was one of the best..but I wouldnt want Hasek backing up Rask for the same reason.

Like I said I agreed with everything but the fact u claim svedberg is better

He’s not saying Svedberg is a better goalie in career stats. He’s saying Svedberg is the better goalie for Boston.

I have read both of your arguments. And I agree 100% with you all. In regards to who is better Svedberg or Brodeur. There is no question Brodeur is one of the best ever. However Svedberg is young and the question to be answered who is the best Backup goalie today? A young guy with something to prove against a top goalie in Rask. Or a guy who’s career is behind him with nothing to prove. Svedberg might be your guy today.

Again I’m not aruguing the better person for back up, broduer has no place in Boston. But his comment said “Sevdberg is a way better goalie”

  9. #9 by hopp at July 9th, 2014

And I might be a “way better goalie” today. This is all in how it is interpreted. Cheers!

Fair enough but judgment off one game seem a bit outrageous lol.
