NHL Rumors II: Interesting Free Agents, Gardiner, Subban and the Senators
  • Kevin Allen of the USA Today: Allen looks at 10 interesting free agents that are still available: 1. Steve Ott 2. Dany Heatley 3. Martin Brodeur 4. Dustin Penner 5. Daniel Winnik 6. Brenden Morrow 7. Lee Stempniak 8. Derek Roy 9. Chris Butler 10. Mike Ribeiro.
  • Andy Strickland: Defenseman Chris Butler is talking with a handful of teams. The Flames haven’t closed the door on re-signing him.
  • Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun: RFA Jake Gardiner didn’t file for salary arbitration. It is thought that he could get a bridge contract worth between $2 and $3 million. P.K. Subban would likely get an arbitration ruling worth more than $6 million. The Canadiens could opt for a two-year ruling, which would take away one-year of unrestricted free agency. Arbitration hearings run from July 20th to August 4th, unless players sign beforehand.
  • Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: The Ottawa Senators could have some decisions this season with regards to Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner. Anderson is the current No. 1 and is entering the last year of his deal. Lehner is a pending RFA. Will the Senators look trade Anderson at the deadline or re-sign him and stall Lehner’s emergence for a few years?
