NHL Rumors IV: Lightning – Lindback, Brodeur, Callahan and Richards

  • Joe Smith: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said they are considering re-signing goaltender Anders Lindback. The Lightning like Andrei Vasilevskiy and Kristers Gudlevskis, but they want them to play. Ben Bishop will carry a heavy load as the teams No. 1 goalie.
  • Jim Matheson: Matheson can see the Lightning taking a took at Martin Brodeur as a potential backup to Ben Bishop.
  • Joe Smith: Yzerman said they’ve had some “really good discussions” with Ryan Callahan and are hopeful that they can get a deal done by July 1st.
  • Joe Smith: Brad Richards agent said that Richards would “certainly respond positively to interest from Tampa.” Unclear if there is a fit in Tampa.
  • Joe Smith: Not sure if Brad Richards would be a fit for the Lightning. They do have lots of younger forwards and some more veteran leadership.

Tampa is stacked at center position. I dont really see SY offering alot of money for richards. He’s going to have to take a lesser role as an power play specialist and fourth line duty and get paid as such.

I don’t see Brodeur in Tampa Bay next year, and quite honestly, I don’t think Lindback will be in the NHL at all for the ’14-’15 season. Of all the GM’s in the league, Yzerman should know best to get a top notch backup, after the debacles when after a good season, he put all the Lightning’s eggs into the baskets of Dwayne Roloson and, later, Anders Lindback. Also, since Lindback is an RFA, unless he gets traded or is willing to take less than $1.1 million, no team would sign him.

I apologize, Lindback is not an RFA.
