NHL Rumors II: Malone, Panthers and Coaching Notes for Pens, Panthers, Caps and Islanders
  • Joe Smith: Lightning’s Ryan Malone pleaded not guilty to charges of DUI an possession of cocaine.
  • Broward Politics: Later this month or early July, Broward County is expected to hire a financial consultant to analyze the Panthers request for more public funds.
  • Chris Botta: Source saying that all the Islanders sale talks won’t affect their plan to add talent. Barroway didn’t have anything to do with them bringing in and re-signing Jaroslav Halak.
  • Bob McKenzie: The Panthers have their coaching list down to three from six. Will likely get down to two by the end of the week. Their six finalists wereDan Bylsma, Marc Crawford, Ron Wilson, Gerard Gallant, Tom Renney and Bill Peters.
  • Renaud Lavoie: Gerard Gallant and Dan Bylsma are the leading candidates for the Panthers.
  • Will DePaoli: Source saying that Dan Bylsma would take less money from the Panthers than he’s owed from the Penguins, which could be around $2.3 million. Bylsma wants to coach. If Gallant gets the position, it won’t be because Bylsma wanted too much money from them.
  • John Shannon: Pittsburgh source said that Marc Crawford will get an interview.
  • Steve Simmons: Hearing that former Maple Leafs assistant coach Dave Farrish has spoken with new Capitals head coach Barry Trotz about the possibility of joining the Capitals.
  • Arthur Staple: The Islanders named Doug Weight their assistant GM. He’ll also remain as an assistant coach.
  • Arthur Staple: Islanders officially named Bob Corkum as their assistant coach.
  • Mark Spector: The Blue Jackets extend their coaching staff to multi-year deals: Craig Hartsburg, Ian Clark and Chris Clark.
