Morning Rumors V: The Kings Are Interested In ….

  • The Fourth Period: Kings GM Dean Lombardi has been active in his search for a top-six goal scoring forward and a top-four defenseman. They have been eyeing Andrew MacDonald and Christian Ehrhoff.

The Kings have been interested in Matt Moulson. Others interested in Moulson include the Senators, Ducks, Coyotes, Devils and Bruins. The Sabres are looking for a first and a prospect as part of package for Moulson. Sources saying the Sabres like Kings Tyler Toffoli.

The Kings have also looked at Thomas Vanek, Mike Cammalleri, Ryan Kesler and Marian Gaborik. The price for Vanek may be too high for the Kings and the Canucks are not really interested in trading Kesler to a team within division.  Cammalleri may be a last resort for the Kings.

The Kings have scouted the Blue Jackets recently, and had two scouts scheduled in Toronto last night to watch Gaborik.

  • Dennis Bernstein: A Matt Moulson deal could also expand to include Christian Ehrhoff, would fit both of their needs.
  • Dennis Bernstein: The Kings are still interest in Islanders Andrew MacDonald. The cost is a draft pick (not a first round pick) and a decent prospect. There is lots of competition for MacDonald.
  • Dennis Bernstein: The Kings had two scouts watching Gaborik, but Kings trying hard to land Moulson though.
  • Chris Botta: The Kings have inquired about Tomas Vanek, but are looking at Matt Moulson and others. The Kings have the assets.
  • Dennis Bernstein: (answering question) Have not heard any Sean Bergenheim rumors to Kings. Could be a last resort.

    Camm makes sense here…

Pretty sure *every* team likes Toffoli.
Moulson isn’t really much of an upgrade on Toffoli. Might actually be a downgrade so I don’t really see that happening.

Toffoli has far greater trade value than Moulson.. The guy is 20 years old and has an unreal shot, decent speed which will only improve and from what I’ve seen his teammates like him a lot. I’d b reluctant to acquiring someone for a player off the kings roster as they are a force.. They have a solid prospect pool and look as though they can afford to give up picks

Thanks. We don’t get to see the Kings a lot out east, I’ve just heard good things about him. I’ll keep an eye on him when the Leafs play the Kings next week. At least as long as I can stay awake for a 10:30 start.

How about looking at what the Kings have done in the past at the deadline. They are a franchise that avoids big names, bidding wars, and UFAs. Instead the Kings want to land oft-injured, grizzled veterans who have had some success in the playoffs, not Cup champions mind you, but some experience.

Gaborik fits that mold. CLS has proven they can win without him, the LAK need a top 6 Fwd. I would prefer Jagr in the 35+ crowd but we’ll take any top 6 fwd.

Please no more depth D-men or 4th line forwards!!

@Boom. Off hand I only remember Penner and Carter. If Gaborik is available cheap he is worth a gamble, but it is hard to make the cap fit. Kings don’t really have bad contracts to ship out and getting Columbus to eat salary makes Gaborik more expensive.
