Injury Notes: Zetterberg, Martin, Zuccarello, Staal, Filppula and Stamkos
  • Ansar Khan: Red Wings Henrik Zetterberg had surgery yesterday to remove part of his disc in his back. He could be out eight weeks, but they are not sure.
  • Elliotte Friedman: Penguins Paul Martin has a hand injury. Rob Rossi said he could be out a month, but he hasn’t been evaluated by the Penguins medical staff.
  • Brett Cyrgalis: Rangers Mats Zuccarello’s broken hand was confirmed and he’ll be out three to four weeks. Marc Staal didn’t practice yesterday due to back spasms.
  • Erik Erlendsson: Lightning’s Valtteri Filppula tested his fractured ankle out yesterday. Skated after practice.
  • Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times: Lightning’s Steven Stamkos spent his Olympic break skating and lying on the beach.

“It did feel good, but it feels even better now,” Stamkos said of his leg. “Maybe I wasn’t as far along as I thought, knowing how much better it has felt now that I have kept working on it and taking a couple of days off. It’s just going to continually get better, and that’s positive knowing it’s doing that.”

He’ll have an x-ray on Monday to determine if he’ll get clearance to play against Nashville on Feb. 27th. If he doesn’t, March 6th could mark his return.
