Morning Rumors: Talbot, Cammalleri, Smith-Pelly, Neuvirth, Vanek, Miller, Stamkos, GM search and Scouting

  • Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: With Penguins Pascal Dupuis now out for the season, Panaccio thinks the Penguins could go after Avs Max Talbot as he’s not a good fit with the Avs and he’s a good friend of Sidney Crosby.
  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Matheson thinks that Flames Michael Cammalleri could be a good fit on the Penguins. Matheson thinks that Ducks Devante Smith-Pelly would be a perfect trade target for the Oilers.
  • Pierre LeBrun: The agent of Capitals Michal Neuvirth said he’s hoping for a change of scenery. Could use a fresh start.
  • B.D. Gallof: Gallof thinks the Islanders will offer Thomas Vanek a max deal as they have every intention of trying to sign him. They see him as a core piece and worth spending the money on.
  • Mike Harrington: “So for all those wondering, I would make Miller the big offer, assume he’ll turn it down and then trade him. Sell high. Absolutely.”
  • Darren Dreger: Lightning’s Steven Stamkos continued to skate over the holidays and everything remains positive. The concern is whether he’ll be able to build enough strength in time for the Olympics.
  • Bob McKenzie: Sabres search for a GM is winding down, with a few candidates to get second interviews. Process could be done in a couple weeks. LA Kings director of scouting, Mike Futa, was interviewed by the Sabres before Christmas. Bruins assistant GM Jim Benning is a strong candidate for the Sabres.
  • Roger Millions: Capitals GM George McPhee was at the Flames-Canucks game last night while the Capitals were in Buffalo.
  • Adrian Dater: The Penguins and Maple Leafs scouted the Avalanche-Jets game last night. Leafs and Avs have been rumored as trading partners for a while.
