Morning Hits: Hybrid Icing, Capitals, Bryzgalov, Oilers Red Wings, Gill, Liles and Telegin
  • Michael Russo: The NHL expects to hear from the NHLPA today about hybrid icing on whether they will use it this year or not.
  • Chuck Gormley: The Capitals free up $1.05 million in cap space when they traded Mathieu Perreault to the Ducks for a 4th round pick and John MitchellEric Stephens: Ducks GM Bob Murray:

    “Adding a young, quality center to the mix makes us that much deeper. I thought we needed some additional speed and scoring, and he is a feisty competitor.”

  • Josh Yohe: Regarding the rumors that the Penguins are interested in Ilya Bryzgalov, Yohe wouldn’t expect it, nor has he heard anything suggesting they will.
  • Bob Stauffer: The Oilers have 49 players under contract. Stauffer wouldn’t be surprised if they picked someone off waivers in the next couple of days.
  • Ted Kelfan: The Red Wings will have decisions to make today on Patrick Eaves, Jonas Gustavsson and Jordin Tootoo.
  • Tim Panaccio: Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said a decision on Hal Gill will come today. 
  • Adrian Dater: Responding to the question if the Avalanche would pick up John-Michael Liles on waivers from the Leafs: “For 100th time, no.”
  • Gary Lawless: Jets Ivan Telegin is still under contract with them so he can’t play in the KHL.  The Jets are saying that Telegin wasn’t reporting to St. John’s of the AHL for “personal reasons.”
