Injury Hits: Gagner, Torres, Brown, Giroux, Pateryn, Daley, Ritchie, Bolland, Stuart, Schroeder and Red Wings
  • Joanne Ireland: Oilers Sam Gagner will have surgery today on his jaw. Expected to have at least one plate.
  • Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: Sharks Raffi Torres could miss at least six weeks, possibly three to four month if surgery is required for an ACL injury to his right knee. They are still determining if surgery is needed and should know later this week. David Pollak: If Tomas Hertl has made the Sharks, could also mean now that a roster spot is open for Hamilton or Nieto.
  • Lisa Dillman: Kings Dustin Brown will skate on his own after practice. It will be the first time since his injury.
  • Jon Rosen: Sutter on Dustin Brown: “He skated one day since the start of camp, and he’s not a guy that can just jump into a game. So if he doesn’t get any exhibition games, I’d say it’s highly unlikely that you’ve got a player that’s ready for the season.”
  • Sam Carchidi: Flyers Claude Giroux sounded a bit hesitant about playing tomorrow night.
  • Marc Antoine Godin: Canadiens Greg Pateryn isn’t skating today due to a lower-body injury.
  • Mark Stepneski: Stars Trevor Daley skated today but there is no timetable for his return from an upper-body injury.
  • Mark Stepneski: Stars Brett Ritchie has a lower-body contusion and is out a few days. He could get into one of the two final preseason games.
  • James Mirtle: Maple Leafs David Bolland is out with a sore groin.
  • David Pollak: Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart is making progress but unlikely to play in the final three exhibition games.
  • Ben Kuzma: Canucks coach John Tortorella on Jordan Schroeder’s foot injury (blocked shot): “They think they found something.”
  • Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings are currently $2.7 million over the salary cap, but their injuries could help them out. Players who could be put on the LTIR are: Darren Helm ($2.125 million cap hit), Patrick Eaves ($1.2 million), Jordin Tootoo ($1.9 million) and Jonas Gustavsson ($1.5 million). A combination of two or three players on the LTIR would get them below. Only Gustav Nyquist and Danny DeKeyser can be sent to the AHL without clearing waivers, but both players deserve to remain with the team.
