Morning Hits: FLyers, RNH, Hall, Weiss, Carter, Goalie pads and Karmanos

  • Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: The Flyers are hoping that a team will call them in the next couple weeks looking for a defenseman. They would like to shed some salary.
  • Dan Tencer: Oilers GM Craig MacTavish said that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will “absolutely not” see any pre-season action.
  • Dan Tencer: MacTavish said that moving Taylor Hall to center while Nugent-Hopkins is a possibility. It will be a coaches decision.
  • Chris Nichols: Red Wings Stephan Weiss on playing with Johan Franzen: ”I think Pavel & Z will see lot of attention; hopefully we can fly under radar, do some damage”
  • John Hoven: Kings assistant coach Davis Payne: ’We’re always asking ourselves the question, how do we get Jeff Carter the puck more?’
  • Dennis Bernstein: According to Kings goalie coach Bill Ranford, some goalies will have pads that are four inches different, ’lucky our guys weren’t cheating much’
  • Michael Smith: Hurricanes Executive VP and Assistant GM, Jason Karmanos, has been relieved of his duties. Ron Francis and Darren Yorke will take over the duties.
