Team Canada Orientation Camp: Insurance, Thornton, Giroux, Chiarelli and Krueger

  • CP on TSN: Players attended the Team Canada orientation camp did not take to the ice due to high insurance costs.

“It would be nice, but it’s not the case and I still think we can get a lot out of these few days without skating,” said Crosby, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain who scored the gold-medal-winning goal in Vancouver in 2010. “There will be a lot of information being thrown out there and we’ll have to learn a lot in a short period of time, but I think everyone is kind of excited for that.”

  • Stephen WhynoJoe Thornton didn’t attend the orientation camp due to a family situation. He’ll try to make it to Calgary if possible.
  • Insider TradingClaude Giroux missed the camp to rehab his wrist injury. Though not saying, management and coaching staff may be a little upset that he didn’t show up. Insurance costs would have been more than $1.2 million if they were to practice during the orientation camp. They are going to put boards over the ice and do a walk through without skates of how they want them to play.
  • Dan Rosen: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli is a now a member of Canada’s management team. Ralph Krueger was brought on as an advisor for the coaching staff.
