Penguins to sign Evgeni Malkin to an 8 year contract extension


The Penguins will sign Evgeni Malkin to an eight-year, $76 million contract extension. The deal can’t become official until July 5th.

The deal carries a $9.5 million salary cap hit, the second highest in the NHL behind Alex Ovechkin’s $9.538 million. It won’t kick in until after next season.

    That’s a lot of salary tied up in two guys who have lost a lot of games to injury. Shero is going to run into big problems at some point.

    Bigger problems than having Crosby and Malkin long term.
