Ducks Sign Ryan Getzlaf to Contract Extension

  • Anaheim Ducks: The Anaheim Ducks have signed center Ryan Getzlaf to a 8-year contract extension.

“We are very happy to have Ryan committed to this franchise long-term,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “He has often expressed his interest to stay in Anaheim for his entire career, a goal we share. He is a leader, a proven winner, and possesses a skill set that’s hard to find. This is a great day for the Ducks.”

What do you think of the 8-year, $66 million extension?

I’ll bet Perry ends up in Leafland, Hate to say it, but that seems the most likely ending. Unless Bruins make a good offer for him.

Agree with hotwings … overpay by $2 million or more even. He’s a good center but that’s a lot of money for just a “good” center.

    He’s just a good center?
Overpay by 2M or more? so that makes him a 6M player in your eyes?

I mean, Ryan friggin O’Reilly just got 6.5! Stastny makes 6.6.

Eric Staal makes 8.25 and they’re like the exact same.
Getzlaf even has a better career point-per-game %

I sure as hell was hoping for a bigger home discount, like 7.5, but on the open market now, he could’ve gotten even slightly more.

I have my own bad feelings about the situation, but don’t overstate it.

8.25 for a guy that had 11 goals last year? I don’t care what others command or what he could get elsewhere. Paid for performance. 57 points last season doesn’t warrant that contract. I would have traded him to the Leafs for everything they could take em for

there seems to be a number of factors that went into him getting 8mil+ a season…

The Ducks GM prob did not want to lose both Perry and Getz and preferred to focus on locking up the position that is hardest to fill.

It is a “centre’s market” these days… Case in point, Grabovski, O’Reilly, Stastny, Richards…

Anaheim, isnt Long Island nor Tampa… Location matters… Look at the home town discount Stamkos and Tavares took…

Anyways, it’s going to be plenty interesting to see what they do with Perry at this point… Perry can’t get that much in Anaheim…

Thinking about the history this salary for Getzy is fair, i’m sure like 20 teams would have been ready to pay that in July. After all he is better than guys like Gomez, Drury, Gaborik…besides who else who they would have got in the summer to replace the no. 1 center? A couple third liners for 4,5 mil each in the FA market? No thanks…

This is just brain farts while drinking whisky but if i remember correctly, according to some articles last year, Getzy’s wife had a child and then some problems with marriage etc etc. Maybe these were the reason for bad season.

you are contradicting yourself. If you pay for performance, you don’t just pay for the last year. He had one off year, yeah, but you know what, he’s rebounded and is one of the best PLAYERS this year in the league. This is his contract year anyway and he’s been fantastic.
You don’t even pay a playmaking center straight up for the amount of goals he scores. He is like top 5 in assissts the last 5 or 6 years.

They are all overpaid. Bottom line.
