  • Darren Dreger via twitter: Dreger is reporting the Calgary Flames have signed Avalanche center Ryan O’Reilly to a offer sheet.
  • Contract:  Cap hit of $ 5,000.0 2012-2013: $1,000,000 salary with a signing bonus of  $2,500,000. 2013-2014: $6,500,000 salary.
  • Darren Dreger via twitter: The Avalanche won’t like the $6.5 million in the second year as that becomes his qualifying offer.
  • Bob McKenzie via twitter: If they match the offer, the Avalanche can’t trade O’Reilly for one calender year from the date they match the offer.

If the Avalanche don’t match the offer, they will receive the Flames 1st and 3rd round draft picks this year.

isnt this kinda 5 years too late? now they decide to get a #1 centre? now, that iginla and kipper are at the twilight of their careers?

anyone have any input on why the flames wouldnt put an offer sheet up w/ more term? why only 2 years? what if he holds out again in 2 years? maybe the flames think that if they have RR, then they dont want to overpay for a third year just in case (?)

Compensation too high for unproven center that has never scored 20 goals. Blow it up Flames, Nathan Mckinnon is only 30 or so crappy games away…..

I live in Calgary but I’m a Leaf fan. It all depends on where the Flames finish this year. If they get O’Reilly and they finish bottom 5 then Colorado won this but if Flames play well this year and Colorado gets a 12th pick overall then Flames win this. That’s the way I look at it.

w/ RR in the lineup, you wouldnt be able to predict that the flames wouldnt make the playoffs… they prob would.. i think thats what colorado would think… w/ RR in calgary, you are looking at a pick out of the top 10… maybe you only get the 16th overall pick? is that enough for RR?? prob not..

i wish the flames would blow it up… it looks like they are headed that way… i think avs match… a 12th-16th pick + third, isnt enough..

It seems it doesn’t matter who the GM is, the Flames just seem to be stuck being disjointed and poorly managed. You’re one of the bottom teams so far, and you decide to piss away your 1st-round pick in a deep draft? How stupid can you be..

there is the possibility that they know the avs will match and are just sticking it to them, cap wise… past examples (might have) included vanek, penner, hjalmarsson, etc…

more likely, it might just be feaster playing with the controls like some kid at fake space shuttle control panel..

And they matched it, which actually isn’t surprising. If the offer sheet was for 5+ years at that AAV, then we would know that Calgary was actually serious.

For the short-term though, ROR isn’t worth anywhere near that kind of coin.. at least not right now.

Now that they have O’reilly maybe they should trade straight up for Kessel.

LOL @ avs coming back from 3-0 down to beat the flames, jump ahead in the standings over calgary by 1 points… and getting RR back in the same day.

LOL @ feaster more like it… honestly… what a circus.. ill have to pick up a copy of the calgary sun tomorrow.

The only winner in this mess is ROR..

I applaud Feaster that at least he’s trying to do something.. At least someone had the balls to send O’Reilly an offer… and they loose nothing..

Aves on the other hand deserve to what they get… what a stubborn organization.

When his contract is up and they don’t qualify him, who do you think he’s going to sign with when he becomes a UFA? Thanks Feaster for the 6.5 million!!
