Oilers acquire Mark Fistric from Stars for a pick


The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defeseman Mark Fistric from the Dallas Stars for a 2013 3rd round pick.

Fistric was drafted in the 1st round, 28th overall in 2004 by the Stars. (Mike Green was drafted 29th)

Fistric will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, carrying a $1.475 million salary and cap hit. He’ll join a blueline that could include a combination of: Ryan Whitney, Justin Schultz, Nick Schultz, Ladislav Smid, Jeff Petry, Theo Peckham and Corey Potter.

Dan Tencer via twitter: GM Steve Tambelllini said that he traded for Fistric now was necessary as he thinks that the trade market will die with the season starts.

    This is a solid move by the Oilers. I know Fistric has been less than spectacular through his career to date, but this trade will pay off bigtime in Edmonton.
