Maple Leafs trade Kris Versteeg to Flyers for Draft Picks

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded winger Kris Versteeg to the Philadelphia Flyers for a 2011 1st and 3rd round draft pick.

Versteeg carries a $3,083,333 cap hit and salary for next year. Philadelphia has to be pretty much capped right out. Versteeg will bring his Stanley Cup experience to an already deep group of forwards.

Tim Panaccio via twitter: The Leafs were trying to get James van Riemsdyk for Versteeg but settled with the 1st and 3rd round picks.

Capgeek via twitter: The Leafs now have 12 players on the books for next season at $35.1 million.

Bob McKenzie via twitter: McKenzie is hearing that the Leafs will keep the 1st rounder and look to deal the 3rd rounder for a tangible asset.

Sean Fitz-Gerald via twitter: Burke said, “This deal was on the table from Philly for a week.” Tried hard to get a player in the league or close, but couldn’t.
