Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Rumors – Jan. 26th

  • Damien Cox, Don Landry and Gord Stellick on the FAN 590: Audio from yesterday mornings radio talk show. Talking about the Leaf game on Saturday night, and if Kaberle will waive his no-trade clause.
  • Brian Burke on Hockey Central – Video: Brian Burke was on Hockey Central, discussed Kovalchuk, who won’t be coming to the Maple Leafs.
  • David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail: Jonas Gustavsson has less than 30 games to convince boss Brian Burke that he should be the goalie of the future for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Vesa Toskala won’t be back, possibly gone by the trade deadline. Shoalts presents 3 options for the Leafs goaltending situation.
  • Hand the No. 1 job to Gustavsson next season and sign a good backup from the list of free agents.
  • Look for a veteran free agent who can act as a mentor to the 25-year-old Gustavsson and be capable of playing as many as 50 games if the youngster’s development still lags.
  • Sign or trade for the best possible goaltender money and cap space can buy. Gustavsson can either back up and wait his turn or be traded for another asset.
  • One option that might present itself is that if the Florida Panthers are out of playoff contention, they might put Tomas Vokoun on the trade block. Vokoun has 1 year left at $5.7 million. There’s JS Giguere at $7 million ($6 million cap hit) for next year. Jonas Hiller is also a UFA at seasons end. Nashville has 2 UFA goalies in Dan Ellis and Pekka Rinne, and they won’t be re-signing both. Other free agent goalies are Martin Biron (Isles), Chris Mason (Blues) and Marty Turco (Stars)

  • Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca: Now that Sheldon Souray has agreed to waive his no-trade clause, will Tomas Kaberle follow suit? Spector thinks Kaberle’s trade value is diminishing.
  • David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail: Maple Leafs defenseman Mike Komisarek is hoping to return on Saturday. Komisarek has been out since Jan. 2nd with a shoulder injury, the injury may not be fully healed. Doctors looked at the shoulder, and Komisarek may have been given the option of surgery now or playing through it and having surgery after the season.
  • Terry Koshan from Canoe Sports: One team that might consider trading for Vesa Toskala might be the Calgary Flames. Other UFA’s that could be moved Lee Stempniak, Matt Stajan and Alexei Ponikarovsky.

Just by the monster starting next year will improve wins Vesy choked this year and i think we gonna get get a Captain from free agent and we most likely gonna see kadri next year so we will be aleast in a 8th spot can’t see it now but beautiful things are coming next year so much gonna happen lol next year is time for the playoffs once again GO LEAFS GO!

i think personally that they should keep the monster as there number one goalie and trade toskala another team, kaberle should stay with the team because he is third on the defense and is a great role model for Luke schenn. Luke schenn should be the captain of the leafs and they should get rid of stempnaik and pony and possibly get rid of kessel? get Kadri and Hanson and stalberg and get rid of mayers and a few other players who aren’t contributing to the team.

Can’t trade Kessel now, Burkey loves the Americans.. Defnitely ship Stempniak & Pony, if you can get anything in return I’m not sure.. Kaberle is one of a kind and should only be traded if top picks are given in return. What a disaster of a team.. Antropov would probably be very useful right now. There is no place for Garbage men like Mayers and Orr these days

here is how it is going to pan out gentleman.

The leafs have the cap space to take in prospects and contracts of other teams that want a salary dump.

The biggest candidates are from the Chicago Black Hawks

      Kris Versteeg 3.0 million
      Brian Campbell 6.5 million
      Andrew Ladd 2.7 million
      Christobal Huet 3.0 million

of course to pick up campbell you will need at least a first round pick which belongs i beleive to caronlina but i could be wrong.

yahh burke will do something hes only not even in a full year dont expect much give it 4 years till they do it takes a while doesnt help are old gm fucked everything up getting nothing for mccabe or sundin and any of thos players and over pricing everyone its hard kaberle needs to go i think hes almost done and blake hes 4 million thats to much for him its not the goaltenders fault at all there on a shitty team with no good defence sooo i trust burke look at his past hes good at what he does it will happen its gunna get worse before it gets better for sure all they got to do is get a solid goaltender monster is good toskala hes good not good enough defence is so bad finger and kaberle should go i think and forwards walin premueu blake are big names to go but unno they cant get anyone good in this upcoming draft so they should just use them all up with there trades to get better results

Here’s the big problem with all of these theories, the leafs really have no one to traqde
They got Phaneuf, yaye for them but they still have a long way to go.

Here is how it’s goanna work now
Bozak, Hanson, Stalberg are all goanna start putting some major minutes in and Kadri is goanna come up too. Phaneuf or Schenn are goanna be captain and kaberle isn’t going anywhere

I’m sorry but you men know not the slightest about ice hockey.
